(PRWeb UK) February 10, 2011

Radio I and Radio 1Xtra’s Programme Controller Andy Parfitt visited Bournemouth University (BU) this week to re-launch BIRSt (Bournemouth’s Internet Radio Station) and to share his industry expertise with students.

Andy gave some valuable advice to MA Radio Production students. “Keep as broad as you can,” he said, “because the world we’re going into is a world where all devices have screens. Radio and visual technology will come along together in the future. Radio production, web content production and visual production are all converging without question.”

The session that followed, in which Andy talked about the nature of Radio 1 in a world full of developing technologies and listener habits, was packed with students eager to hear advice on how to stay ahead in a changing industry. There was an extended Q & A session at the end which covered everything from journalism on Radio 1 to Zane Lowe and Westwood. Ever the diplomat, when asked who his favourite presenter was, Andy refused to be drawn!

Andy stressed the importance of understanding your target audience, listening to feedback from academics and experts, but most importantly staying abreast of new technologies and exploring other methods of reaching your audience.

He used the example of how Radio 1 and 1Xtra use mobile technology, such as Ipods, smartphones and the internet, rather than just the traditional radio. He said: “The journey Radio 1 is making from an analogue radio station to a multimedia brand is well underway.”

Andy was particularly impressed with the work of MA Radio Production student Tom Wake who designed and developed the website for BIRSt. Andy described the site as “a very clean design” and was interested in the tools Tom has used.

Professor Sean Street said: “Radio 1 – and Andy Parfitt in particular – are good friends of ours here in the Media School, and it is always a pleasure to welcome him and other members of his team. Andy is a member of our Radio Industry Advisory Panel, and his time with us on this occasion was also an opportunity for us to discuss current issues in radio training, ensuring that our teaching and technical provision remains relevant and up to date”.

Andy was appointed boss of Radio 1 in March 1998 and has led the station to a listener increase of nearly 12 million per week and to its current position with the most successful listener ratings in years. In 2002 he oversaw the birth of the digital station, Radio 1Xtra, which plays contemporary black music.

Fantastic DAB Digital Pure Radios

DAB digital radios offer a number of advantages over traditional AM and FM radios – they supply a far greater choice in radio stations, the capacity to pause and rewind live radio, and they remove the typically frustrating hissing and popping that comes with other radios.

Pure Digital are a main manufacturer of DAB radios and are widely regarded as the leading business in this region. They’ve developed some extremely innovative and creative designs for DAB radios that have become increasingly common in recent years.

This article provides an overview of four of the most well-known digital Pure radios currently offered to acquire.

Pure VL-60907UK Siesta

The Pure Siesta is substantially cheaper than many of the other radios on the market and is perfect for those who want a quality radio with out having to invest a modest fortune. It’s especially suited to the bedroom as it is tiny and takes up minimal space on your bedside table.

Despite its small size, however, it still provides wonderful sound high quality as well as the volume can easily fill a huge room.

A nice feature is the big LCD display where the brightness automatically adjusts itself according to the quantity of light within the room – this ensures that the radio’s display isn’t too bright when you are trying to sleep at night.

You can also set the volume of your alarm which is helpful as it ensures that it wont be too quiet to wake you, or too loud to make you jump out of your skin!

Pure Evoke 1S

The Pure Evoke 1S is really a quite popular DAB radio – the sound top quality is great and it has a quite cool retro look to it.

It’s a extremely well designed device and its appearance is in fact of similar top quality to radios that are far a lot more costly than this 1.

The menu system is well thought out and quite simple to get the hang of – you’ll most likely be able to begin utilizing it straightaway, as opposed to spending ages working by means of the manual.

This radio genuinely is worth the investment and is some thing that you can proudly show off to your pals!

Pure Digital Oasis

The Pure Digital Oasis is really a personal favourite – it’s created to withstand outdoor conditions and consequently has a bulky and strong design.

The sound top quality is excellent and it is possible to pick up a wide range of diverse stations from the antenna. This radio is also waterproof which means that it can potentially be employed within other rooms in the house such as the bathroom.

It really is a really versatile radio and provides excellent value for dollars – well worth a look.

Pure Move

The Pure Move is a lot more portable than the other radios and is ideal should you need to listen to DAB radio whilst out and about. The audio high quality is very high as well as the battery life is first-class – even after regular use you will almost certainly only have to charge it once a week.

The menu system is easy to navigate and the controls are intuitive to use.

This truly is a very cool radio and is perfect for those who want to take their radios out with them. In summary then, these are just four of the very best radios currently around at the moment – there are several others and new ones are continuously being released.

Three Ways To Advertise On The Internet For Free

Advertising your business on the Internet doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, it does not have to cost you anything at all. Every savvy business owner is always on the lookout for ways to stretch their ad budget to get the most possible exposure at the least possible cost.

Here are three ways you can promote your business without spending a dime.

1. Volunteer for an interview on Blog Talk Radio. Blog Talk Radio is a popular Internet radio channel featuring bloggers from across the Internet. The hosts of these radio shows are continually creating new programs and they are always on the look out for guests to interview for their listeners. You can search the shows on Blog Talk Radio by category to find one (or more) in your niche. Contact the show’s host and find out if you can be interviewed for an upcoming broadcast. You will get the opportunity to discuss how and why your business will benefit the show’s listeners, as well as advertise your website link. If you find your business is suited for this type of exposure and you enjoy the experience, you can even create your own Blog Talk Radio show and promote your business via Internet radio on a regular basis.

2. Another great way to get free advertising on the Internet is by becoming an active participant on a forum in your industry. Nearly every type of industry has forums and chat rooms where colleagues gather and share insights and tips. Internet marketers make great use of forums both to interact and share with each other as well as to perfect their sales pitches and technological ideas such as new software they develop.

Some forums are open to everyone. Other forums require a registration and possibly charge a membership fee. Assess the value of the forum before you pay a fee, but don’t let a few dollars prevent you form becoming a member of a quality forum. Forums are an excellent way to establish yourself as an expert in your field. They also give you a place to learn, grow and improve your skills and knowledge. Your business will gain from active forum participation in two ways. Every time you leave a comment on a forum, you have the opportunity to leave a link to your website. If you are sharing useful information on the forum, this will definitely bring you traffic. Your business will also gain from forum participation through your ongoing participation as you develop networking opportunities, market your products and services and sharpen your skills in sales.

3. You-Tube Videos offer a third way to advertise your business on the Internet for no cost. With a simple video camera, you can create an informative or interesting video to drive traffic to your business website. Video is fast becoming the preferred medium for many Internet regulars. Many people love the entertainment value of a humorous video. Others prefer to learn a new technique or skill by watching rather than reading. Video can be very enticing for businesses that provide training for a particular service. If you have a five-step system for your service, you can share the first two on a You-Tube video and then draw viewers to your site for the remaining information. You can also make a creative video that leaves viewers with a question they can have answered through your services. With a bit of imagination and a small investment of time, video can become a huge advertising tool for your business.

These are only three of the many ways you can promote your online business for free. You also have options such as article marketing, link exchanges, social networking and more. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you have to pay to get the word out about yourself or your business. It can be done and done successfully, without breaking the bank. So, which will you choose to do first?

How to Record Online Radio with RadioGet

SHOUTcast is a huge and fast-growing Internet radio directory and free-of-charge audio streaming server solution. Both hobbyists and professionals from any part of the world are enabled to create their own online radio station for free. That is why the number of SHOUTcast users grows rapidly since its launch. Now over 30.000 online radio stations are hosted – tremendous free music source you can stay tuned with. Well, it would be nice to record some new hits or any great song you always forget the name of. The few simple requirements here should be: no audio quality loss, correct song tagging and automatic exclusion of any commercials and DJ speech (record music only). RadioGet online radio recorder suits these requirements and becomes the editor’s choice.

RadioGet can record thousands of free Internet radio stations of SHOUTcast standard, when streaming audio comes in MP3 format. While recording, the software accurately recognizes music downloads by available metadata and separates them into MP3 files. RadioGet installs its own imbedded database with approximately 25.000 online radio stations. They all are arranged by music genre/sub-genre that makes navigation much easier. For more accurate results, RadioGet user can browse the database using Search feature by station title or music genre.

In case your favorite stations are missing, you can always add them manually. On SHOUTcast radio stations can be heard either online via SHOUTcast player or with installed digital media players e.g. Winamp, Windows Media Player, iTunes etc. To play the station, save its playlist PLS file to your computer. After that you may record it. Launch RadioGet, click “Add Station” button and point on desired playlist file on your computer. If the radio station’s playlist file has some other extension (M3U, ASX), there’s still a way to create PLS file manually and record online radio station with RadioGet. Open any PLS file in text editor and replace the desired stream address and port. The required URL address and port you may copy from M3U/ASX file properties. Save the new file with PLS extension and add to RadioGet library.

RadioGet online radio recorder can download songs from several Internet stations simultaneously. But don’t forget to control your computer performance in case it’s not very fast. Recorded MP3 files will be sorted according to the artist name in application output folder. You can also use RadioGet as easy to use radio player and start/stop online radio recording by demand.
